Happy New Year! I hope that you all had a brilliant Christmas break. It is great to see students back in school refreshed, focussed and eager to learn.

Year 11 Mock Exams

Monday is the start of the Y11 mock exams which will run over the next two weeks (see timetable below). Students have been working hard in preparation and we have had really good attendance at the after school sessions we have been running. These practice exams are a crucial time in which strong foundations can be built for exam success in the summer.

Following on from this, on Wednesday 13th February there will be a Y11 parent’s revision evening where parents will be invited to come in and work with students on their revision – a letter and further details will be sent out soon.

Year 9 Parents Evening

On Thursday 7th February it is Year 9 parents evening. Letters will be coming home early next week and then students will be able to start making appointments for meetings with teachers. As always we stress the importance of attending parents evening which is an excellent opportunity to bring up any concerns and discuss the progress of your child.

Sports update

This afternoon North Gosforth Academy welcomed a school from Wakefield to play against our Y11 boys in the 4th round of the ESFA national cup. Our team played fantastically and won by an amazing 7 goals to 0! This takes them flying through to the Quarter Finals of this national competition which is a huge achievement and we couldn’t be more proud of them, well done!!

Congratulations also go to Joseph Rickerby, Leo Kirsopp, Reece Slater, Jamie Dean, Kate Rickerby and Lea Bommel who represented NGA and North Tyneside at the district cross country competition this week. Conditions were perfect and the competition was strong.

Joseph, Leo and Lea have all now qualified to represent Northumberland County against Durham, Cumbria, Cleveland and North Yorkshire in the inter-counties competition in February.

Well done to all and good luck in the next round!

Careers update

We are pleased to let you know that ‘Careers Corner’ is now open in the LRC. Thanks to a generous donation of careers books from How2Become.com, the UK’s leading careers and educational information and development website, students can easily find useful information about a wide selection of possible career paths. We also have a new Careers Twitter account - follow @careersnorthgo1 to find out about routes into training and employment, current apprenticeship news and vacancies and to see all of the activities we do in school to support our students in making their choices when they come to leave us.

Transition

On Thursday 10th January North Gosforth Academy hosted a primary school netball tournament.  The event was a great success with 50 Year 6 students participating enthusiastically in the festival. The young students were excellent ambassadors for their schools: Burradon, Fordley, Greenfields and Hazlewood playing fairly and displaying some fantastic skills!

With so many young students involved in the festival we enlisted the help of our NGA sports leaders; these NGA students have been undertaking training during their enhancement time and were responsible for refereeing, scoring and escorting our primary friends to the bathroom!  They performed their roles exceptionally.

We look forward to welcoming our young students to the next sports transition festival.

I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.

Warm regards

Steve Campbell
