Operation Encompass Drop in session for students and parents 8-8:45am (Monday 10th June)

06 June 2019

Dear Parent,

Gosforth Academy has been given the opportunity to take part in a new Home Office approved project. It is being led by Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Dame Vera Baird, in partnership with Barnados and Operation Encompass. The project named Operation Encompass, The Next Steps, aims to form part of a wider strategy to break the cycle of Domestic Abuse through education and support.

The project should help students learn the importance of friendships, relationships, emotions and rules so they can live and work together safely.

Our school will also benefit from having one of twelve School Safeguarding Liaison Officers who will:

  1. work with PSHCE staff to deliver age appropriate material on domestic abuse, friendships, relationships and emotions;
  2. be available in school for drop in sessions at specified times so that students and parents can talk about issues they may have around relationships and domestic abuse.

Our first drop in session will be held at Gosforth Academy from 8:00-8:45am on Monday 10th June . If you would like to take advantage of this please report to the Main Visitors Reception at 8am where a member of staff will show you to the designated room. This will be done with as much confidentiality as possible.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to all of our students and we believe the project will be extremely beneficial for students and the whole community.

Yours sincerely,

Mr P Chahal                                                         Mr K Wood
