Careers and Work Experience

Our acting Careers Leader at North Gosforth Academy is Sam Kelso (email sam.kelso@seatonburn.org.uk, telephone 0191 2361700).

Our school is working towards the eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance and they are:

  1. A stable careers programme
  2. Learning from career and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experiences of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance

It is the aim of our school to fully meet the eight Gatsby benchmarks.

Careers education is delivered in a variety of ways: through lessons, tutorials, assemblies, one-to-one interviews, work experience, and events which take place both inside and outside of school.

We have a fully qualified Careers Adviser, who will provide impartial guidance to our students on a one to one basis. They will include information on a wide range of education and training options and will show no bias towards a particular institution, education or work option.

To support their work we will invite a range of education and training providers to visit our school and further information can be found in our provider access policy available to download below.

In the documents available to download we have set out which activities take place throughout the year for each year group.

We measure the impact of these activities in a variety of ways, for example analysing destination data and seeking feedback from students, staff and other participants involved in the programme, such as employers.

The next review of this information will be in December 2018.

If you would like to offer feedback or any further comments on our Careers Programme please email Sam Kelso using the details above.
