What interests should I have if I want to follow this course?

An interest in travel is vital to the completion of this course. The units cover a range of practical elements of the Travel and Tourism industry including many business topics which are applied to suitable companies. Students are given the opportunity to plan events and holidays based on given criteria so an interest in the organisation of such scenarios would also be suitable.
What will I learn about?
The course offers a variety of topics covering all the key aspects of the travel and tourism industry. The following are just a few examples:
  • Exploring effective customer service in a travel and tourism settings and managing the customer experience
  • Planning holidays and itineraries
  • Investigating visitor attractions and their appeal
  • Starting your own enterprise
  • Working in the Travel & Tourism industry
How will I be assessed?
You will complete six units across the course. Three of these units are completed in Year 12 and three in Year 13. Assessment is 100% coursework portfolios that will be completed and marked internally. These projects will be assessed in a number of different ways including practical demonstration, presentations and written reports.
What minimum qualifications will I need to start the course?
Grade 4 in English or a Pass in a Level 2 vocational course in the subject area. 
What Teaching and Learning methods will be used?
A variety of teaching methods will be used to enable you to complete your units. The following are some examples of the methods currently used:
  • Working independently and as part of a team
  • Completing short tasks and larger projects
  • Visiting local businesses or working with visiting speakers from the local business community
  • Researching businesses through the internet and other sources
  • Producing and delivering presentations
What can I do when I complete my qualifications?
This is a useful qualification whatever you want to go on to study but will be an excellent introduction to travel and tourism if you are interested in a future in the industry. Equally it will give you experience of studying in ways similar to what you will experience at university.
