What interests should I have if I want to take this course?

Do you want to consider a career working in sport? If you have a keen interest in sport and have studied either GCSE PE or BTEC First in sport then this course may be suitable for you. You will develop the knowledge, understanding and essential skills required for gaining employment or to go on to an undergraduate degree or other higher education course.

What will I learn about?

The course comprises of three core units and three optional units which may be studied over two years. These are continually assessed and each unit is graded as a Pass, Merit or a Distinction.
Core mandatory units are:

  • Anatomy for Sport and Exercise
  • Sport and Exercise Physiology
  • Sport and Exercise Psychology

Examples of the optional units are:Fitness Training and Programming

  • Practical Team Sports
  • Practical Individual Sports
  • Sports Nutrition
  • Sports Injuries
  • Current Issues in Sport
  • Exercise, Health and Lifestyle
  • Sport and Exercises Massage

What are the minimum qualifications I need?

4 in English or a Pass in a Level 2 vocational course in the subject area.

What Teaching and Learning methods will be used?

Assessment is in the form of completed assignments which take the form of project and portfolio work, posters, leaflets, presentations, reports, research projects and simple tests. There will be a combination of theory and practical work.

What can I do when I complete my qualification?

On successful completion of this course you can either move directly into employment or choose to study a foundation degree at college or a degree in higher education. You may look for career opportunities or seek employment in sports coaching, teaching, sports nutrition, gym instructor etc.
