Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 This year's theme was "Take Action" and "Wear it Green" and our students and staff truly embraced it! Our Wellbeing/Learning Support teams proudly came together dressed in green, showing their support and helping to spark important conversations around mental health. We also invited students to make a personal pledge: a small (or big!) commitment to take action in a way that could positively impact their mental health. Whether it was getting active, connecting with others, giving back to the community, or simply taking time for themselves, the focus was on meaningful change. The engagement was fantastic it really got everyone thinking about what supports their wellbeing. Some of the most popular pledges included: Hosting a games night Organising a day out Tackling a declutter Donating to charity Volunteering Setting up a kick-about Going on a photography walk We're so proud of how thoughtfully everyone took part - a great reminder that small actions can make a big difference. Happy May Day! As we welcome May, we're reminded of growth, renewal and looking ahead to the future. For our students, this is an especially important time as exam season approaches. And our Year 10 football team showed exactly what that means in the City Cup Final After an earlier narrow defeat to Wallbottle ended a long unbeaten run, the stage was set for a dramatic rematch. Under pressure, after an unexpected detour, the boys showed resilience, unity and belief. The result? A dominant 7–3 City Cup Final victory, rediscovering the scoring form that's seen them net 67 goals in just 12 games this season An incredible response. An unforgettable performance. These two superstars have won this year's Gosforth Academy Kindness Award. The award started last year and gives Gosforth Academy staff and students the chance to nominate students who have performed an act of kindness, however small, in school or their local community. Bruce D and Oliver M, both in Year 9, recently helped a member of the public who collapsed in the street in Gosforth by making sure they were comfortable, reassured, and that an ambulance was called. The voting panel selected these two students because of the bravery and community spirit they both showed. National Schools Squash Finals 2026 – Outstanding Success for Gosforth Academy! Earlier this month, our squash teams smashed it at the National Schools Squash Finals. Five of our six squads advanced to the quarter finals, with standout performances across all age groups. Highlights: KS3 Boys & Girls: Both teams made the finals after hardfought semifinal wins. Narrow 2–3 defeats in both finals, with some incredible individual battles. KS4 Girls: National Champions! A brilliant 3–2 win over favourites Kenilworth secured the title, our seventh girls' title in seven years. KS5 Boys: Strong 5–0 QF win before facing worldclass opposition in the semi and 3rd/4th playoff. Gosforth Academy finished as the best-performing school across all categories. Beyond the results, we're incredibly proud of how our students represented the school on and off the court. A huge thankyou to Richard Vitty for his ongoing voluntary support. Champions Twice Over! A huge congratulations to our Year 10 boys' football team, who ended their season in style! After dominating the East League with 20 goals scored and none conceded, they went on to win the historic Exhibition Cup and become Regional champions. A tense semi-final penalty shootout and a brilliant 3–1 win in the final showed their determination, teamwork, and incredible talent. The journey continues as they now head into the City Cup semi-final and County Cup final.
