    Web Analytics

Web analytics is the collection and analysis of the data generated when people visit and use a website. This helps the website owner know such things as the number of visitors to various parts of the website, the time they spend on the website and if they return to the website. Various tools are used to produce web analytics, such as Google Analytics, which uses a set of cookies to collect data.

    What are cookies?

A cookie is a small file of text that may be saved in the memory or storage of your electronic device (computer, phone, or tablet, etc.) when you visit a website. Cookies are used to improve the way the website works and can be used to remember the information you’ve provided so that you don’t have to re-enter it on subsequent pages.

    Types of cookies we use

    Session Cookies

These are temporary and are removed when you close your browser or leave a website. They are used to remember website visitors as they move from page to page and are typically used for storing your basket when using online shopping.

    • Functionality: Helps maintain continuity during your visit.
    • Performance: May support basic analytics during a session. Collect anonymous data on how visitors use the site, helping us improve usability and content.

    Persistent Cookies

These remain on your device for much longer, even after you close the browser or restart your device. They remain until you remove them, or they expire, which can be up to 12 months. They are typically used to store information such as your name, language preferences, or login information.

    • Functionality: Saves your settings and preferences, enabling core features such as remembering your login details, language preferences.
    • Targeting: May be used to tailor content or advertising, track browsing habits to deliver relevant content or adverts. These may be set by us or third-party providers.
    • Marketing: Can support re-marketing and ad personalisation to deliver adverts more relevant to you and your interests, and to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.
    Third-party widgets and cookies

We use third-party widgets (standalone applications embedded into the website, such as a newsfeed or banner) from platforms like XFacebook, and YouTube. These widgets may set their own cookies, which we do not control. These cookies may be used for:

    • Marketing: Tracking engagement and ad performance.
    • Targeting: Profiling users across platforms for personalised content.
    • Performance: Monitoring widget usage and improving integration.
    • Functionality: Enabling features like embedded video playback or social sharing.
    First-party and third-party cookies

Cookies created by our website are called 'First Party' cookies. Cookies that have been set by parties other than the website owner are called 'Third Party' cookies. This typically occurs when a website incorporates elements from other sites, such as images, social media plugins, or advertising. You don’t have to enable all cookies on your computer or device. You can configure your browser not to accept certain cookies.
