I am incredibly proud to share some fantastic news about the achievements of our students at Gosforth Academy.
Newly published Department for Education data for the 2025/26 academic year shows that 63.4% of our students achieved a Grade 5 or above in both GCSE English and Maths, the highest proportion of any school in Newcastle on this measure.
While statistics can never tell the full story of a school, this result reflects something I see every day at Gosforth Academy: young people with ambition, resilience and a determination to do their very best.
Behind every result is an individual student and their own journey. I know just how much hard work has gone into these achievements, both in the classroom and beyond it, and our students should feel enormously proud of what they have accomplished.
I would also like to recognise our exceptional staff. Their expertise, encouragement and unwavering commitment to our young people make an enormous difference. From our teachers in the classroom to colleagues providing pastoral, academic and wider support, this achievement has been a real team effort.
Our students’ success is also strengthened by the support they receive at home, and I would like to thank our parents, carers and families for the important part they continue to play in the life of our academy.
The wider context makes this achievement particularly significant. Across the North East, 44.0% of pupils achieved Grade 5 or above in both English and Maths, compared with 63.4% at Gosforth Academy. Across state-funded schools nationally, the figure was 46.3%.
For me, however, education is about much more than examination results. At the core of our academy and Trust (Gosforth Group) is a simple but powerful ambition: “Creating Futures” for all our students. At Gosforth Academy, that means giving every young person the knowledge, confidence, character and opportunities they need to make the most of their talents and take their next steps with ambition.
These results are a wonderful example of that ambition in practice. To be recognised as Newcastle’s best-performing school for the proportion of students achieving Grade 5 or above in both GCSE English and Maths is something our entire community can take pride in.
But what matters most is what these achievements enable our young people to do next. Whether continuing their studies, progressing to university, pursuing an apprenticeship or beginning their career, we want our students to leave Gosforth Academy ready to embrace the opportunities ahead of them.
To our students: congratulations. This is your achievement. You worked for it, you earned it, and we are immensely proud of you.
We look forward to seeing the futures you create.
