    Student Bursary Scheme

    The 16-19 Bursary Fund

The bursary fund is intended to help students with the essential costs of participating in their study programme, to help with the cost of essential books or equipment or with the cost of travelling to the academy, for example.

Bursary funding is designed to help students overcome the individual financial barriers to participation they face; therefore, funds must only go to those who genuinely need them. The individual needs of each student must be assessed in addition to their eligibility when awarding bursary funding.

You may be eligible for the bursary if you are a young person in care, including unaccompanied asylum-seeking children; are a young care leaver; are receiving Income Support or Universal Credit because you are financially supporting yourself, receiving Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments in your own right as well as Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit in your own right; are in receipt of Free School Meals and your household income is below £32,000pa; are a young carer; or have exceptional circumstances and a household income below £32,000pa.

If you think you may be eligible, you will need to fill in the application form. You will then be assessed and if you are eligible, you will then need to provide further details, such as bank account details or evidence of income.

Please read the relevant bursary policy below for more information. If you are in Year 12 you need to consider the pilot policy, if in Year 13, consider the legacy policy.

If you have any questions, please speak to Mrs Walton or Mrs Blackburn.

    Which Policy Applies To You?

    • If you are making a new application (and have not received a bursary in the 2024-2025 academic year), Policy ONE applies to you.
    • If you have previously been in the scheme and want to renew your application to continue to receive the bursary in this academic year, then Policy TWO applies to you. Note: You need to complete the form to submit a new application and continue participating in the scheme.

    The process in summary:

    1) Read the policy to ensure you understand how you may qualify - make sure you understand which policy applies to you

    2) Complete the application form - even if you are applying to continue to receive the bursary for the new academic year

    3) On submission of the form, the Sixth Form Team will contact you directly about the next steps
