New Uniform Guidance for September 2026

As part of our ongoing commitment to equity, inclusion, and poverty proofing across our Trust (Gosforth Group), we have reviewed our school uniform expectations for September 2026.

This review follows updated Department for Education guidance on the affordability of school uniforms and reflects our determination to ensure that our uniform remains accessible to all families.

To support this, we have reduced the number of items that require a school logo to the following:

    • School navy round neck sweatshirt with logo* and colour circle for year group
    • School white polo shirt with logo* and colour circle for year group
    • School navy and amber PE polo shirt with logo*

*These items should be purchased from our approved uniform supplier, Michael Sehgal & Sons Ltd. Other items can be purchased from any supplier or retail store.

    School Coats

With immediate effect, families will no longer be required to purchase/provide a specific school coat. We understand that parents wish to choose a coat suitable for changing weather conditions, and we want to remove the need for pupils to own a separate coat exclusively for school.

To ensure coats remain practical and appropriate for school, we ask that they meet the following guidance:

    • Coats should be in keeping with our high expectations for standards of dress. Denim, leather, and camouflage-style coats are not permitted.
    • We recommend coats that are warm, waterproof, and include reflective elements to support pupil safety when travelling to and from school.
    • Coats must not be worn inside the school building, and pupils should be able to store them in their school bag during the day.
    • We strongly advise against purchasing expensive, branded coats. Please note that the school cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to individual items.

Please note that the current uniform requirements remain unchanged until the end of the summer term.

From September 2026, the uniform requirements will be as follows...

    Main School Uniform:

    • A suitable warm and waterproof coat which can be stored in the school bag during the day (please see guidance above)
    • White polo shirt with logo*
    • Navy round neck sweatshirt with logo*
    • Plain black tailored school trousers, shorts or a pleated school skirt. Shorts and skirts must be knee-length and tailored
    • Plain black, sensible school footwear (trainers are not permitted)
    • Grey or black socks or black plain tights (not patterned).
    • Suitable school bag big enough to hold an A4 folder

    PE Uniform:

    • PE plain navy, shorts, joggers, tracksuit bottoms
    • Plain navy round neck sweatshirt
    • School navy and amber PE polo shirt with logo*
    • White ankle sport socks
    • Long navy football socks (for outdoor contact games)
    • Non-marking training shoes (not leisure shoes)
    • Astro-trainers, moulded and metal studded (not blades) football boots are preferred footwear to be worn on our new 3G pitch

    Current Uniform Requirements

We regard the wearing of school uniform as very important and seek the support of parents/carers in maintaining our very high standards in this respect.

We expect students to come to school looking tidy and presentable:

    • Jewellery is restricted to a watch. We reserve the right to confiscate, or insist that students remove, any item which contravenes these guidelines or which we deem to be a potential safety hazard. Confiscated jewellery will be returned at the end of each half term.
    • Hair accessories should be plain black, navy or white and not excessive.
    • Religious headwear must be plain black, navy or white.
    • Personal stereos must not be worn, nor should mobile phones be switched on or visible inside the building.
    • Excessive makeup, false nails and nail varnish are not allowed.
    • Hairstyles must not be extreme, avant-garde or an unnatural colour. We reserve the right to determine what is a reasonable style or colour of hair and to insist that students with inappropriate hairstyles have them restyled or coloured, wear a suitable covering or remain in isolation in school until we consider their hair to be acceptable.
    • Hats, scarves, T-shirts, jeans, sportswear, boots or trainers of any colour must not be worn in school.

Our lists are often not exhaustive as it is not possible to catalogue every scenario that could be deemed a breach of policy. Please note that the senior staff team reserves the right to determine what may or may not breach our own policies.

    Uniform

All students will require the following main uniform items:

Wearing a school coat on the journey to school is compulsory for all students following the October half term holiday and up to the February half term holiday. Non-uniform items such as fleeces or hoodies cannot be worn under school coats or over school sweatshirts.

All students in Year 9 to Year 11 will require the following PE/sports wear items:

    Note to parents/carers:

    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is recommended, e.g. shin pads and mouth-guards for contact sports such as football, hockey and rugby.
    • All jewellery should be removed.
