Careers and work experience at gosforth academy sixth form

Careers and Work Experience

At the heart of our careers and work experience programme is the aim that all our students should be in a position when they leave Gosforth Academy to create their own future.

Work Experience

Work experience is offered to year 10 and year 12. Year 10 have the opportunity to take part in a placement during the last week of school. We cannot authorise placements outside of that week. Students will choose work experience as their option for Yellow Week, and then upload the details of their placement to an online platform using an app.

Year 12 have two weeks for work experience allocated as the last two weeks of school in the Summer term. They will be allocated virtual work experience tasks during the second to last week of school if they are unable to source a placement of their own. The last week of school in July is also Progression Week. Students will choose whether to complete Progression Week or carry out a work experience placement.

Given the numbers of students who complete work experience, we are unable to provide placements for students. Students are encouraged to find a placement using contacts if they have them, or by calling companies that could potentially offer them something. We have provided a sheet to help get students started with the process.

We measure the impact of activities in a variety of ways, including analysing destination data and seeking feedback from students, staff and other participants involved in the programme, such as employers. See links to the annual activity surveys produced the local authority for year 11, and for Sixth Form destination data.

If you would like to offer feedback or have any further comments on our Careers Programme please email our Careers Leader and Progression Managers.
