From all the team at Gosforth Academy Sixth Form, we would like to thank the parents and providers who attended our Higher Education Information Evening on Wednesday 8th June. A particular mention should go to our student helpers, all eleven of whom were fantastic. Each of our students volunteered their own time to help show parents around the school and to direct providers to the correct locations. Without them, we would not have been able to hold the event as successfully as we did. We are extremely proud at how mature and welcoming they were to visitors. Well Done.
The evening, aimed at parents, was set up to help provide tools for navigating the UCAS process. Trends towards higher education are ever changing, and in order to keep up with demand we included talks from Newcastle College on the degree courses they offer. Northumbria University also provided us with a talk on degree apprenticeships, a relatively new qualification that has proved particularly popular with students in recent years. Newcastle University gave a presentation on that all-important matter, Student Finance.
As with all our events, we endeavour to improve each year by collecting feedback from attendees. Parents have responded via our online feedback survey; thank you to all who contributed. Please see below for some of the stand out comments from the evening:
‘As always I come away delighted that my kids/grandkids are attending Gosforth Academy!’
‘We are grateful that the session was organised. Huge amount for XXX to consider which we had underestimated.’
‘Found the evening useful, particularly about finance as this is something I was very concerned about. It was lovely to be able to talk with XXX’s tutor. He was very reassuring.’
‘Miss Cassidy was very helpful and supportive when I asked her some questions. Thanks a lot.’
We have taken on board comments regarding microphones for next year, as well as looking at start times to help as many people attend as possible. Thank you again to everyone for helping us to support our students.
