As part of our International Women’s Day marking, we welcomed former Gosforth Academy student Anna Soulsby to discuss her football career with Year 10 PE classes. We are immensely proud of Anna’s achievements in becoming an integral part of the Newcastle United Women (NUW) squad in what is proving to be another very successful season.
We know that she will continue to contribute moving forward, and she spoke passionately about her love for the sport and, of course, her club, despite her early career with one of the club’s local rivals! The current students involved could ask Anna questions about her career experiences, her hopes for the future and the challenges she has faced in getting to where she is now. These centred around what is involved in the day-to-day life of an elite-level sportsperson from a career perspective and also about her motivation during times of celebration and challenge.
Anna provided a fantastic example of a strong and passionate role model for all those involved, and we are sure this experience will last in the memories of all the students involved.
Thanks to Newcastle United Foundation, NUW, Miss Ward and Miss Brooks from our PE Department and, of course, Anna for their contribution to the visit.
