Exchange programme students explore German culture in Heidelberg

In the first week of July, our German exchange to Heidelberg took place with 10 of our Year 10 and Year 11 students exploring German family life, food, and culture.

Fully immersed in the German language, the students were able to visit our partner school, the Elisabeth-von-Thadden-Schule, and participate in lessons. It was great to hear that some of our students put their hands up and answered questions in German!

We also visited the Carl Benz car museum and discovered our shared Roman heritage in Ladenburg. We had fun in the zoo and a video gaming museum in Karlsruhe, and hiked up to a medieval castle after a boat tour on the river Neckar. We were able to cheer the English win in the quarterfinals of the Euros and commiserate with our German hosts when they narrowly lost to Spain. Thankfully, we did not have to play each other in the quarterfinals!

The exchange received funding from the UK-German Connection, which supports the strengthening of cultural links between the two countries. We are already looking forward to October when a new group of students from Germany will come to Newcastle for the next exchange adventure.
